Ood B’Nar

Magellen’s Journal

August 1993

Finding a suitable place to sit, I talked long into the night with the Treant. “I am Magellen, a Wizard, and retired adventurer. I have been on a personal quest for sometime now, needing a moment to take some downtime and collect my thoughts, I was curious about the Fey Wild encroaching on the Material Plane.  You seem to be the center of the area effected.  Would you be able or willing to give me any insight on the cause of this miraculous event?”

The treant was quiet for some time.  “Why should I trust you with the information that I have?”

Thinking for a minute and hoping I wasn’t rash in my questioning.  “You shouldn’t, or at least, you have no reason to trust me, I attempted to help you, when you probably didn’t need it, but other than that, you do not know my intentions or who I could possibly work for. Are you able to read?”

“Yes”

Handing him my journal, his large limbs twisting and creaking as he gingerly takes it with twig like fingers.  He reads a few pages and hands it back. “I am Ood B’Nar, a treant elder of the Seelie Court.  I have been cursed by the Demon Lord, Orcus.  I interfered with a few demons who had made their way into the Fey Wild to assassinate Damh, the son of King Oberon and Queen Titania.  Orcus tied my fate with his minion, Acererak, a child of a Balor demon.  I have made the assumption that Acererak was teleported or somehow forced to the material plane and as a result I was also sent here.  Would you be able to tell me how far the wilds go from me, if I am the center?”

Trying to calculate how far I walked today, “I would say 2 or 3 miles from you, I don’t know exactly, have you had someone attempt a remove curse on you? I’m sure you have, I just don’t know what types of connections you have here in the material plane. I could attempt if you would like?”

Ood lowers a large branch and gently sets a tiny fairy baby on the ground. “He was borne to my branches a week or so before I was teleported. I named him Dehkū, after my father. It is special when an Elder produces a fairy seed, it happens only once or twice in a lifetime. This is my second. I am trying to take care of him the best I can. I’ve had someone try to remove the curse but, I would appreciate it if you would try. I don’t want him harmed, if the spell goes awry.”

I sit down and concentrate, pouring all of my energy into the remove curse. When I finish “Feel any different?”

Ood stretches and plays with the small fairy, “I do appreciate it, unfortunately I still feel him in my sap” after a while “In a year or so Dehkū will learn to use his wings and be able to better get around. Maybe we will find a way home. I have started finding some of the sentient creatures work in the area, making contacts, and trying to make a new life until something or someone tugs me in a new direction.”

We talked until light broke the horizon, as I headed off, we made a promise to use Sending to talk on occasion. Heading back to Kohkiri Village I thought more on my predicament. Not having any answers I head back to the inn, to get some sleep.
