Shadowfell – September 1854

“Why are our people following and trying to hurt us?” Father says not to worry about it because they don’t understand. He says that we need to just get away and start a new life. What he is teaching sometimes I don’t understand because I want to play and have fun.

I’m beginning to understand why father has been teaching me the way of being quiet, hunting, and following animals. I like it when he hides my bow and gives me a short period of time to find it, blindfolds me, takes me out from camp and tells me that I need to learn how to use my hearing, smell, and touch to get back to camp but I feel him close by making sure that I am safe and not getting lost.

I hear father yell “Kylune!! Get up and run!! Run fast and far!! Run and don’t look back! Hide and I will find you, remember your teachings!!” I don’t understand why he is telling me this, are we being chased again? I will do what he told me to do and hide so he can’t even find me. What time is it because the sun is coming up? Where is father? Is he looking for me or did I hide so well that he can’t find me, I’ll wait just a little longer to see if I can hear him trying to sneak up on me.

It’s getting dark and where is father because he said that he would find me. I will meditate like he taught me so that my belly will not burn with hunger and maybe he will have something good to eat when he finds me. Father has not found me and I am hungry, it’s quiet in the woods so I think that maybe he wants me to look for him even though he said to run and not look back. I don’t know how far I ran but remember what he taught me what to look for while being in the woods so I can find my way back, I hope he has something good to eat and happy that I did what he told me to do.

What is this? It looks like blood on the bushes and tree but no animal. Did father kill something and making a feast for us since I did what he told me to do? He will be so happy when I get back and we will laugh about how he couldn’t find me.

I think I am getting close to camp now because I see some of the markings that he showed me what to use so I wouldn’t get lost while traveling. I don’t smell any food or see a fire, maybe this is another test for me and he will have me cook this time but I I know that I am getting close.

Why is it so quiet and where is father at? I’m almost there but something “feels” different, I don’t understand and getting scared. “Father? Where are you?” I know that he has told me not to yell but he hasn’t found me and …….Wait!!!! What is that laying on the ground?!? Running up, it’s father and he is not moving. He doesn’t look like he is meditating or breathing. “Father, are you okay?” I push him. “Father? What has happened?” I roll him over and notice that he has been cut by the weapons of our clan and some arrow heads laying next laying around him. I hold him tight, “Father, why have you left me? Why did they do this to you? Us? I swear on our bloodline that I will avenge you and hunt them down one by one!! I, Kylune, son of Najoki, will find them and make them pay father!!!”
