Day 2

Kas’s Journal

Shadowfell – Dec 1855

I arrived early this morning, Bower has seen to everything making sure that the contract we signed with Orkan has been followed to the letter. He informs me that Bandard has an illusion spell cast on him. Which makes me wonder if it is Bandard, some minion they grabbed, or Strahd himself.

Keeping the secret of what we are bringing here today has been difficult, some people have been more curious than others. They will be dealt with by the time I get back. Putting a scrying needle in him is also important, just in case they find a way to take him from our custody. This is a dangerous meeting. We will see how it plays out.

Sha’drath has entertainment planned for this evening, werewolves procured from the material plane. Orkan was able to clear out the town hall for a fighting ring. But first dinner with Rahadin. A table has been set up for the four of us, Bower, Bandard, Rahadin, and myself. Our guards sitting at others tables in the common room, eyeing each other like they expect the others to attack at any second.

Dinner, this is a mockery of the word. I knew Rahadin is a vampire, I knew they only needed blood to keep themselves alive, but watching him, watch me, as he sipped at his glass. I am unclear, if he wants to drink my blood or be able to eat the food on my plate. Making small talk is difficult. Rahadin is more skilled at it than I am. Speaking of the Raven Queen and the ongoing skirmishes around the Shadowfell as if we were friends.

Rahadin lets me know in multiple ways that he knows he has the upper hand in these negotiations. Although I don’t think he knows who I have with me to trade for the information I desire. At least he’s come close to confirming that he has the information we desire. The Raven Queen’s true name is something we have been after for years. Now that it’s so close, I’m wondering if our quest is truly at its end.

Walking to the town hall we hear a roar and a crash as someone is thrown through a window and part of the front of a house. Two werewolves have decided to take the fight to the town and are picking up villagers and either ripping them apart or throwing them at other people or structures in the area.

Both sets of our guards run ahead and get into the fray, our private guard hanging back and eyeing each other like they started this mayhem. The guards make quick work of each of the werewolves, working surprisingly well together. My guards fighting with magic and sword, Rahadin’s fighting with gaseous form, strength, and teeth.

Slowly coming up on the scene, we see Sha’drath motion and send two scared looking men through a portal. Striding up to us straightening his suit, he informs us that men responsible for not taking proper care of werewolves have been “released” to the astral plane to think about their actions. Apologizing for the distraction he leads us into the town hall to VIP seating on the second floor to watch the upcoming matches.
